Tucuxi-BLAST

This is an original D2DNA tool and is described in an international scientific journal. Since then, it has been optimized to meet various demands. In this work, we show that the efficiency of the tool is much higher than several others to perform Record Linkage. Furthermore, Tucuxi-BLAST is capable of running a large service using a simple laptop. Read the article.

Application example

With Tucuxi-BLAST, we connected the records of the National Malaria Surveillance database to the records of the national database of patients with HIV. In an unprecedented way, we show that HIV status is associated with the risk of malaria in the Amazon region of Brazil. The finding represents a challenge for the formulation of public policies aimed at comorbidities. Read the article.

"Differences in the record of the same individual are understood by the system as if they were "mutations" in the DNA. This is because genomic tools are able to show the fragments that are most similar to another and, with that, make the connection of the bases. With the sequence of letters for each individual, it is possible to cross and unite data from different repositories."

"For example, people who have been vaccinated by the SUS, Brazil's national health service, can be cross-referenced to other datasets to find vaccinated patients with a specific disease. Even if a vaccination record contains errors or uncompleted fields, Tucuxi-BLAST is able to link it to the same patient in another database because it treats inconsistencies as if they were DNA mutations."

"In processing the RL of the largest simulated dataset (200k records), the state-of-the-art method took 5 days and 7h to perform the RL, while Tucuxi-BLAST only took 23h.When compared with five existing RL tools applied to a gold-standard dataset from real health-related databases, Tucuxi-BLAST had the highest accuracy and speed."
